A fully "comped" room at MGM would now cost about 20% more than I have paid for any Las Vegas hotel room, of any kind, in any season, at any property, in this century. But there's another one born every minute, and there are even places like Hard Rock (which pioneered this scam locally) that specialize in fleecing the poor clueless bastards out the ying-yang for crappier rooms in undesireable locations.

Somebody's gotta pay for the losses at CityCenter I guess....
Just for fun, as a shareholder (of one share) and a prospective customer, I think I'll email MGM Corporate to inquire about the resort fee for The Harmon:
Quote:
The Harmon is a highrise building in the CityCenter Las Vegas development in Paradise, Nevada. The tower was designed by Foster + Partners as a non-gaming boutique hotel, and was to be operated by Andrew Sasson's The Light Group upon completion. The building features an elliptical layout and highly reflective exterior located on the northeast corner of the project at the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Harmon Avenue. Serious construction defects to the building were discovered in 2008, and the project was halted indefinitely. On August 15, 2011 MGM announced plans to implode the building.
By the way, who lost their job over that, since I can't seem to recall hearing of it?

Wow, that's really excessive. It's a joke charging resort fees, as others point out, just up the rates and be honest about it. Of course when I compare rates I always factor in the resort fees. But $25 on top of the already high rates at MGM when all they give is free internet? With my 4G phone, that's nice but I'm not gonna pay $12.99 a day for it, let alone $25.
Unless the rate before the resort fee is so low that it is still a good value, very unlikely, I can't see myself staying at an MGM property ever again.
Too bad.
Hey Rob Moore, any chance you can get them to waive the fee for poker players? Yeah, I didn't think so.

It's not an "overreaction" to point out a fundamentally dishonest business practice and to encourage customers and potential customers about this fact and to encourage them to spend their money at places that are up front and honest.

100% overreaction. If the total price is the same or less you should not be reacting that way. Other hotels could charge a higher rate and not have a resort fee. The total price is what matters.
Overreaction? Let's see, we are talking about an additional $5 added to a fee/practice that already exists. That generates a whole slew of posts by morons claiming dishonest business practices, outrage, and proclamations to never visit again? Overreaction?
