This is really just cross posted from another thread but thought it would work here well as an update on what's new. I played in a real tough 5/10 NL game the other day. It was 4 handed with myself, Tyler Smith, John Dolan (2010 WSOP November 9er and 6th place finisher), and a 22 yr old Internet kid. We were all playing super deep, 500bb+. Luckily I ran well in this terrible game and booked a big win. While in general I'd recommend staying away from super tough games where I likely was break even EV wise at best, I think it's ok to sometimes test yourself against great players to get a better evaluation of your current skill level as well as to learn as much as possible from them in the process. It was a great ending to 2011.
The Beau Rivage in Biloxi is hosting a tournament series that started a few days ago called the Million Dollar Heater. Events range from a few hundred dollars to a $5175 main event with a million dollar guaranteed prize pool. I'm planning on playing the $550 triple draw mix event (A5, 2-7, and badugi), the $660 6-max No Limit HoldEm Bounty, the $1060 8 game mix, the $1060 Heads Up No Limit, and the $5175 Main event. If I'm in day 2 of the main I'll have to skip the $1060 heads up event, but I'm ok with that. Any other AVPers plan on being in Biloxi? If so let me know so we can meet up and say hi. My friend and recent Epic Poker final tableist Joe Tehan will be staying with me in Biloxi to play in these events, so it should be a great time not only playing poker but catching up with a good friend as well. The first event was a $350 buy in and drew over 1400 players over its two starting days, more than doubling the guaranteed prize pool. I really can't wait to get out there this weekend for all the bigger tourneys! Also, I've heard there has been great cash games, 10-25 NL and 25-50 PLO. I better bring my A game!! The schedule of events is located on the Beau Rivages website. I'll try to update how I do here on my blog page.
First off I want to apologize for not being present in the forums lately. I have been very busy the last 10 days or so playing both tournaments and cash games at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi Mississippi. They are currently running a tournament series called the Million Dollar Heater which has replaced the WPT event that was held here for the last 4 or so years. I have played 5 tourneys so far with two final tables in the Pot Limit Omaha 8 or better event and the 6 max no limit hold em event. Unfortunately I busted on Day 1 of the $5k main event. I am about to play my last tourney of the series which is a $1060 NL HoldEm Heads Up event. A strong finish in it would erase some of my bad run in the $150-$300 mixed game the first day as well as a bad session at $5-$10 NL last night. Luckily the saving grace of the trip so far was chopping the PLO8 event heads up with my good friend and poker mentor Joe Tehan. Per our heads up deal Joe took the title which gets his picture on several websites and I took the hardware which included a beautiful trophy and sterling silver Beau Rivage engraved bracelet. Pictures below assuming I do them right. Also, a few days later Joe outright won a $1580 NL event in which we both played and swapped 10% for $35k, so that netted me $3500 back which helped out. Overall I am still losing on the trip after the big loss in the mixed game and taking pieces of several players, and of course it didnt help that i busted several 1k events, a $1580 event, and the $5175 main event. Oh well, thats tournament poker for you. At least I'll have something to give my kid one day in the trophy and bracelet. Oh, and I got a new avatar picture which hopefully doesn't look as "mean" as the other one (as Jon Friedberg mildly put it). Anyway, I'm off to the 1k heads up and then cash games after if I bust. Hopefully I can write up a whole report for the few of you who are interested when I get back home. And I hope these pictures come out and I don't show my technological ineptitude.
Oh, and I really want to wear the bracelet because I'm proud of it and i think it's really nice, but I kind of think it's silly to wear a bracelet that I won in a $550 tournament. I mean I'm not going to wear it every time i play poker, but wondering if it's kosher to wear it during the series that I won it in. Suggestions?

Congrats on your success. That's some good looking hardware you won. I played the first weekend with 1450 of my closest friends. I whipped 1250 of them but didn't cash.
Making a 7 hour drive tomorrow to Daytona Beach Florida to play some bigger cash games and for the $1670 buy in Heartland Poker Tour event at the Daytona Beach Kennel Club and Poker Room. Anyone ever played here before? Make sure to drop me a message if any AVPers will be there for the weekend. Hopefully I'll have some good stories to tell when I get back!

I played there before but it was pre-Florida law changes a few years ago. Tournaments are generally pretty good there. I played more often in Tampa at the Hard Rock (Good room) when I lived in Orlando or home games in Orlando. Also played Melbourne's Dog Track poker room (Don't waste your time). Good luck.
*Disclaimer: I created a thread in the East Coast section of the forum but thought this also pertained to my blog so I wanted to post it here as well. It is just a cross post form there with a little personal results added in.
I rarely travel outside of Las Vegas or Biloxi for tourney series' but this week I decided to drive down to Daytona Beach Florida to play in the Heartland Poker Tours $1670 main event at the Daytona Beach Kennel Club. I've been curious as to how poker in Florida is for a while so I wanted to see for myself. I got here yesterday and after resting a bit headed down to the poker room. The kennel club offered great room rates at several local hotels and the one I'm staying at is very very nice for only $80 a night. I must say that the room itself is spacious and the action was amazing. After talking to several regulars they tell me that during non tourney time they still get 2-3 $5-$10 NL games a day, multiple $2-$5NL games and even get a $10-$25 NL game going 2-3x a week. As expected I ran into some very good players but also some very very bad ones. We played shorthanded $10-$25NL with a mandatory $50 straddle for a while but eventually the dead money left and we all quit and went to a full $5-$10 NL game. I never really won or lost and huge pots of note but somehow still managed a $1700 profit on the first night here. The tourney is a $1670 buy in so it's always nice to free roll! I may head down early and play a $380 two winner satellite just to see if I can really get in on the cheap, or I might just keep laying in bed here in my quiet room and enjoy my alone time! The staff at this place seems well trained and customer service was spot on. My complaints come in the form of rake and comps, but from my understanding this isnt a DBKC thing, but moreso the standard throughout the state of Florida. It seemed like in the $5-$10 game if I stole the blinds I'd get $13 profit, meaning they still are taking $1 for the house and $1 for the jackpot, or just $2 for the house when nonone calls. I've always been a believer in "no flop, no drop" rule, but I guess that's just the standard here. I dont drink alcohol very often and I knew you had to pay for it in most places outside of Vegas, but I wasn't prepared that my diet coke from the cocktail waitress would come with a $2.25 price tag. Also, forget $1/hr comps. This place gives you 20 cents an hour. All in all though I really like poker in Florida and look forward to trying to make it down to the Ft. Lauderdale area in April to check out the rooms there as well as housing for a possible move sometime in the next year or so.
I don't have many expectations for the Heartland Poker Tour event as I heard the structure is pretty shitty, but i figure I'm here so why not fire a bullet or two at em! Plusmimalways have then consolation of hopping into a juicy cash game after I bust out.
