At MGM Resorts owned properties poker play isn't part of their company-wide "MLife" tracking system. Their poker rooms just use the card to identify and track players within the poker room (or not, does Mandalay Bay still use the "scribble it on a piece of paper" system?). I've played over 500 hours in MGM owned rooms this year, I have zero points but a bunch of poker comp credits I can use for meals, and while the while the folks working in the several rooms I'm familiar with do what they can, as far as the company system as a whole is concerned I don't exist.

I would love if MGM decided to mimic what Caesars is doing - Universal comp system that way I can use my Comp from MGM Poker room in a restaurant elsewhere.

Station Casinos and Caesars Entertainment are two examples that currently have fully integrated poker with their company-wide player tracking and rewards system, and it appears Boyd may be doing the same with its national and local network. I'm pretty sure Penn bought the M-Resort with the idea of doing something similar to leverage a Las Vegas presence with the national network of gaming properties it has acquired in the last several years, and there are others, and will be more. Company-wide, even after some recent improvements MGM Resorts is still behind most of their competition in knitting an effective system together and using IT infrastructure to add value to their business. But I gotta tell ya...

"What Caesars is doing" (has done as of the last week of October) is to eliminate any real value for poker play in their system, and to say very clearly in multiple ways that they do not want poker players in their casinos. For example, any visitors to Las Vegas are now (since the end of October) quite likely to INCREASE their future room rates across the board at CET hotels by logging in with a Total Rewards card and playing poker at one of their properties, and should seriously consider NOT using the card if playing poker there now and planning to book a hotel stay for a return visit. Does anyone seriously think it is about getting a dollar an hour? To buy a hotdog after ten to fifteen hours of paying rake? If so, one might as well just toss the card in the trash right now. If you ever plan to play a hand, and possibly win an occasional pot, Caesars properties are absolutely the most expensive and least rewarding places to do it. You will pay less and get more at any other property, including MGM.

I remember reading one of the Steve Wynn biographies a couple years ago that said after he opened the Mirage and Bellagio, and Wynn saw all the wealthy poker players (like Brunson) coming in to play in the new room, Wynn would just cringe and be physically sick at the thought they'd be losing all that money to other players and not the casino. Wynn figured every dollar coming in the door should end up in his pocket.

Being that I live in Vegas and don't care much for room rates and all that jazz I still like the way Caesars has their card set up. Sure, they just lowered the amount of Tier Points that I get per hour playing poker but I can live with that. If I'm going to play poker I like the idea of having the comp on my card and able to be used at any of their casino's. I like to eat at Caesars even though I never play poker there. And that is really all I care about and wish that MGM/Mirage would mimic. If they were to do that maybe I would migrate some of my play into their poker rooms instead of mainly playing mid strip at places like IP and Bally's.

To me it is about the food. I'm not a professional, this is a hobby to me. Also, the whole "buy a hot dog after 15 hours of paying rake" is just trying to make it look worse than it is. There are many places where you can get a "free" meal after just playing for a day and you know it, you just don't like Caesars is my take.
But, as I said, I am a casual player. I enjoy playing the game now and then around my real job and I like the fact that I can eat for free because of it or I can save up my comps and wait until I have friends and family in town visiting me so that I can take them out for a nice dinner somewhere and not have to worry about anything but the tip.
Can I do the same at other casino's? Sure I can. But what I can't do is give my friends a choice of 7 different casino's that we can eat in and it all comes off one card. If I were playing at MGM then we'd have to eat only at MGM. Hell, I basically stopped playing at Mirage because I hated the whole system of collecting $5 comp tickets and having to bring them all back in well after they expired just to get them renewed when I decided to eat. So, yes, it's about the $1/hour that they are throwing on my card as a casual player.

FYI...you don't have to collect the vouchers at Mirage anymore. Mirage is now on Bravo and uses a system for comps like the MGM Grand. I hope you come back!
As a recreational player who goes to Las Vegas about four times a year, I am most interested in playing where I have the most fun and where I seem to win the most money. For me, that place is Bally's. Other Caesars properties are okay with me although I do like venturing into other places like MGM, Aria, etc.
For the poker I play in Las Vegas and in the midwest, I have to say that Caesars has been very good to me -- tons of free and discounted hotel rooms, food comps, etc. for this lowly $1/2 NL player.
If I were a local, I imagine that the Station casinos would get a decent amount of my business.
random question, but do the MGM comps ever expire like the CET points? I usually log 40-50 hours at the MGM Grand a year, but hardly ever use my comps. Because I cant check them online, I dont know if they are still there or if its a "use it or lose it" situation.
