I just thought i would comment on something i do now everytime I get into a cab from the airport to the strip. I ask the average price to the cab driver before i get in. WHy you might ask, because sometimes you will get a driver that will take you this long route that costs about 28.00 to the main strip. But if you are basically from mgm to harrah, it shouldnt cost more than 17 before tip. I used to figure I coudlnt do anything about it and if some guy rips me off for 10.00-13.00 who cares, but now I just ask, and if he says 15-20, then i get in, If he says 25-30 (which some have the nerve to say, i say I will get the next one, and i always contemplate yelling this guy is a rip artist, but I never do)

I know 10.00 difference isnt much, but It is never a good way to start off a trip knowing you just got took for 10-15.00 for no reason.

I just pay $20 tip included. If the fare is $12, the driver gets a $8 tip. If the fare is $19.50 because he took the tunnel to MGM, the driver gets a $.50 tip.

When you get to our hotel, inform the cabbie you know you were long hauled and refuse to pay him or threaten to report him to the Las Vegas taxi board.

What I do is say "don't take the tunnel" right after I tell them which hotel we are staying in...We had a cab take the tunnel once when we where staying at the luxor,as we were driving pass the luxor on the 15 I say "do u know where are going??"he said "yes the luxor"and when I ask my the long way?he told me "this way is shorter cause of no stop lights" I call bullshit he tells me "well the port authority tells me can can go this way" I say well that don't make it right"then my buddy starts in on him,and he tells "me as we pull in that he doesn't have to put up with this [censored] and just not to tip him"

The funny part is, its just like Tiredofworking said I gave hime $20 (the fare was $19.63) and I would have given him $20 the other way and he would have gotten a $6 tip easy, and we all would have been happy, its not really the piont of the money I guess its just the feeling that your getting ripped off and I don't like that feeling, plus it just seems to take longer.....

Why freak over taxi fares when you can take a shuttle for free? Arrange it beforehand, or just wait in line in the "shuttle" line at McCarran and it's $5-$8 as I remember. You'll have several stops before you get to your hotel, but it's only $5-8.

I used to take those shuttles, but I just cant stand it anymore. Sometimes you have to wait 10-20 minutes before you even get on or leave the airport. THen you might have to go to 6 other hotels before you get to yours. It just takes to long. It is the cheapest way by far, unless you arrange a free limo from your hotel. Also, if you are with 2 other people, you will pay 14 each round trip. That is 42 total. If you take a cab both ways, it should cost with tip no more than 40.00. So if your going with other people, cabs are actually cheaper.

Would it work if you told the cab driver you were going to the Hard Rock (regardless of your actual destination) to force him to head north towards the intersection of Tropicana and Paradise (no cabbie even the scumbags would tunnel you to get to Hard Rock, right?) and before you hit the intersection fake an incoming cell phone call and then tell him where your buddies really want you to meet them at? So with that ploy you would continue north on Paradise to go downtown and could cut over on Tropicana for Excal/MGM or use Harmon or Flamingo to get to the midstrip properties?

Whatever casino you are going to...Google Map it and see what the directions are...then when you get in the cab tell him to go that way!

Example: For Imperial Palace, tell him, "I'm going to the IP. Take Swenson and Paradise and then turn on Flamingo. Thanks."

You'll have no problems and no tunnel.
