I have to give my opinion on this subject . My last trip here I paid out about 2,220.00 in buy-ins to vegas tournaments in a week and was shocked that the only casino that gave me comps for tournament play was harrahs no other casino pays comps for tourney. Only cash game yet the rake for them was good I get nothing. now I think this is the problem why I reg for tournament and no one shows to play. Now being I am A tournament player and their are many more like me why does vegas poker rooms not show us any love. As I have said I am moving to Vegas I will typicaly play 2 tournaments a day 7 days a week their are poker rooms around town I really enjoy playing at but no comps for me so how is it a guy who will drop 4-6 k month get no comps I ask or do I just have to play only at harrahs it would be a shame if thats the case. So I think the poker rooms should reconsider their postion on this matter for the full time tournament such as my self.............Thank You

The income brought in for poker rooms via tournaments and cash games are barely enough to keep most rooms open. The rake on cash is far larger than tournaments, thus the reasoning on handing comps out in most rooms for just cash games. This has been debated before and I gotta tell you, the expenses that most poker players do not take into consideration that is taken out of the rake is unreal.

I do take into consideration overhead my point is if you had a better turn out on tourneys the room could generate more income of a steady nature instead of me sitting around to see if anyone will show. I cant tell how many times waiting for people to sign up I heard do we get comps for tournaments no do you want to sign up NO. It seems to me the poker rooms need something to draw players in or how about selling hat or shirts for extra income something of that nature. They need to do somthing for sure I have been in poker rooms and I was the only player their for hours and that is not profitable at all. So I think these managers need to start scratchin their heads and figure something out to change these empty rooms so we can all make money. Sure I would like comps but more important I want more players in these tournaments cause it means more dollars to the winners . I would be glad to talk with anyone about ideas on how to solve this problem.

Right. All the casinos should charge an extra $5 rake on their tourneys so they can afford to give out $1/hr in comps to the tourney players.

Or not.

TANSTAAFL

If you want comps, somebody will pay for 'em. It may be the cash game players coughing up bucks, or it may be pulled from the tourney fee, but whatever the case, we, the players, are going to pay for it.

The basic problem Vegas poker rooms have right now is that there are way too many of them. At 8am on Wednesday morning, there may be 120 total people on the strip wanting to play NL1/2, 2/4, and 3/6. Sorry, but that's going to be spread among 23 strip poker rooms, so there aren't going to be games in some of those rooms. Close half of those rooms and it'll be easier to find a game in the remainder.

The only REAL solution is to mint new poker players. And I don't know how to create another Moneymaker+OnlinePoker phenomenon.

Why can'yt you tell us how many times? I have been working in poker rooms in las cegas for over 7 years. I work 6-7 shifts a week a great deal of that time is in signing up players for tournaments ..... and in all that time i HAVE NEVER ONCE HAD A PLAYER WALK DECLINE TO ENETER A TOURNAMENT BECAUS ETHERE WERE NO COMPS.

Now maybe some guy plays the tournament and decides not to play again ..... that I wouldn't know. But I have never had a player tell me they wouldn't play because there were no comps, or walk away apparently because there weren't comps.

BUT SPEAKING OF COMPS...... you know those free drinks they give you while you are playing the tournaments ..... they are COMPlimentary........

Ogh and one other thing...... increasing your tournament business without increasing the rake .... wouldn't help. It means more labor costs, more COMPlimenetary drinks ..... and if they were giving hourly comp rates as well even more than that.

(BTW if you play the Venetian Deepstack Extravaganza they give you food comps, and I believe they do that for regular Saturday tournament as well)

Exactly, the poker room is charge a price for each and every drink. Just like the slot department is charged for drinks served out in their area as well.

Increasing numbers in tournaments would be nice, but it wouldn't make the room anymore profitable. Tournaments are a break even business at best after backing out costs.

I am not talkin hourly comp maybe a percentage of buy-in payin and hourly comp in any room is not profitable in my book. You cant treat every player like high roller but you have to take care of the people who spend money on a reg basis. And the big picture here is to get and keep more people in and coming back to the poker rooms. More people in tournaments means more money and Im not going to cry if they raise the rake I understand the rooms have to make money. But empty rooms equal no dollars for anyone so I see this as an opportunity. You know as well as I do their are alot of players sitting around since the melt down online. I was one of them played online 10 hrs everyday until black friday. I would like to see these players in live games instead of sittin aroud cryin about the money we lost I was one of them . I lost money just like eveyone else at full tilt but mostly Absolute Poker where I played everyday. So I know alot of the players at AP lived in or close to vegas so if your one of them and your reading this get off you ass and come down and play me live not on line no more bs waiting to cash out me and online poker are finished. I get e-mails daliy from online site come and play here well I say screw you were done burn me once shame on you burn me twice shame on me. Ya as you can tell Im still pissed over black fri it put me in a hole 11 online account and all I saw was were sorry at this time you can not cash out at this time for months. Until the day came not that long ago when I could not even get in my accounts anymore I know the moneys gone move on. It sucks my freind online had just won a bad beat jackpot the day before black fri fo 95,000 dollars I guess you know he got no money. But this is what brought me to vegas and I know people will follow. So I do my part in tryin to get these people in the poker rooms to play. But the pokers rooms will have to pitch and figure out how to get all these players back to vegas and not back online oh theirs site still running online for money where they could play but I think their gun shy now Just like me. So I keep sending out e-mails to my online freind tryin to get them here. So this is vegas opportunity to take it back from online sites and start making money again. But Im just one guy with a opinion so you can take with a grain of salt or join me in the fight to get players back in the rooms.........

So If I follow you ....... if there is a $80 buy in tournament that currently takes $15 for rake. You would rather have an $85 buy in with $20 for the house and a $5 food comp.
