I am coming to Las Vegas in October and I want to play golf once or possibly twice. I am not a great golfer, high 90's on a good day to low 100's. I'd like a course that is not too difficult but has good conditions and good service. I will have a car so anywhere within an hour drive of the strip works. I don't want to spend more than $150.

I would be interested in seeing some replies to this, too. I will be out there in November, and we are planning on playing. We would prefer some place within 20 minutes of the strip.

Bali Hai is your best bet for location, about a half mile south of Mandalay Bay. I haven't played there, but a friend told me it may be a little pricey for what you get. On the other hand, the location can not be beat.

My group usually plays Paiute. I think it's about a half hour away from the strip, but feels like you're in the middle of nowhere. No houses/shops/traffic to distract, and it's a really nice way to get a little break from the noise/lights of the strip. This is probably my top recommendation.

I've also played several courses in Mesquite. Wolf Creek is amazing, but it's a very tough course, 80 miles north of Vegas, and can be pricey. I still try to play there every now and then because it's a fantastic course. Don't go out there trying to set a personal best, go there to enjoy the beauty of the course. I've played several other courses in Mesquite, and they're all pretty great. Only downside is the 75 minute drive. Sure, it doesn't sound like much, but it sure feels like a long drive when you're going through miles of desert.

TPC Summerlin is also nice. I think I paid $75 to play there a few summers ago, price probably goes up as the weather cools down. Also a very reasonable drive from the strip. Can be done with a cab ride, but you'd end up saving money by renting a car.

I've found it's better to pay a little more for a nice course. Every time I try to save a little money on green fees I end up being pretty let down by the course conditions, and always wish I'd played a nicer course instead. No point in trying to save $30-$50 if you're going to be walking around all day thinking "this place sucks". Better to spend the money and walk away with a memorable round, IMO.

As a visitor, I'd recommend one of the courses out towards Red Rock because of the scenery. Siena is a really nice course. Arroyo was alright as well. Primm is very reasonably priced and very nice if you don't mind driving to stateline (40min or so from the strip).

Paiute is a great course, and it's not too far out, they have all day golf deals that include lunch, they also have 3 Pete Dye courses, 2 fairly easy and one that is really tough

You gotta look up Rhodes Ranch. Its southwest of the strip but if youll have a car the drive isnt bad. Its a good course condition and the first time i played it was tough. Now its an easy course but its only $25 dollars if you tell them your a resident and ive never been asked for an id if they do just say u just moved here and havent gotten one yet cause there Locals prices are awesome at every course. TPC las vegas is always a good one for $60 and its acctually in the valley of the mountains, its a pretty tough course. All the nine hole courses at Badlands are some of the nicest i`ve played on. Just remember to tell them you just moved here to get great prices.

Tuscany is another nice cheap course, it's Rhodes Ranch's sister course, it's on the SW side of town just past 215 and the Boulder Highway, dirt cheap for a round, nice course, and you can make a trip down boulder highway on the way back.

Here is a website that lists almost all LV golf courses: http://www.lasvegasgolf.com/. I generally like to play the two courses at Primm. It's about a 40 minute drive from the strip. October rates are probably a little over $100. Angel Park has two courses. They are located near the Marriott Rampart casino northwest of the strip, about a half-hour drive.
