Last year, there were more college graduates hired into accounting positions than any other field. Also, it's in the top 10 in projected growth in the next 10 years. Also, this school has 100% job placement for graduates in the accounting field.
Sounds good to me. Good luck with the loan/aid process and with your continuing education... there are some days I wish I was heading back to school.
You seem to be very knowledgeable. I have a few questions for you myself. i have two daughters both have finished their premed and one is in her 3rd year of veterinary school and the other is in her second. I am co signing student loan contacts like crazy for them. Are they not using everything available before coming to dear old dad?
Don't know about very knowledgeable, but you have my sympathy - phew, 4 daughters if I count correctly. At least they should be able to take care of dear old dad later in life. My wife and I have an ECF of $0 because I have been unemployed for a couple of years. As such, she qualifies for the max Pell Grant, and we both qualify for max Stafford Loans. I know the Pell Grant is only available for the first undergrad degree - none for additional undergrad or grad school. My perception of Med and Vet Schools is that they are very expensive and probably far exceed the max amounts annually and lifetime. Max grad school annual is $20.5K; cannot remember lifetime max but >$100K and probably <$150K. Your daughters may have needed the additional loans to cover the difference between the federal limits and their actual costs. My cousin attended a private university 20 years ago where the annual tuition was >$30K - can't imagine how high it might be now.

Back to mcsquare, be sure to ask about loan forgiveness programs for teachers. There are lots of programs out there that will forgive student loans of teachers that commit to teaching in certain low income/low performing areas for a specified amount of time. This could negate a large portion of the money you will owe once your degree is complete. Again, I hope this helps some
Already in the works. Plan to teach Middle School during the day and Community College in the evenings (fingers crossed) for the forgiveness period of service. Then, I will decide which I prefer and continue on that path. Texas A&M - Commerce (which started out as a teachers college) has a MEd in Higher Education Teaching that I will complete in addition to my MEd in ELED (which is where Texas lumps MS).

Which school, if you don't mind me asking? Accounting can provide good career opportunities. I recommend exploring forensic accounting; if you enjoy it, you will probably be set for life.
Now, the job placement is contingent upon graduation, I'm sure, and it doesn't necessarily mean a local job. Thankfully I have a decent paying job and can wait for a somewhat local job and go that route, as I'm not sure that I want to move too far away at this point. Plus, as a part-time student, I'm sure it'll be a few years before I get my degree and start seriously exploring job opportunities.
Signed up for 4 classes this quarter, 2 online, and 2 night classes, each meeting one night per week. Midstate College goes in quarters, with 4 class sessions per year, giving students the opportunity to get in and out much more quickly than a traditional college. I meet with the financial aide dept. today, and expect to need student loans to cover all expenses. After this quarter, I need to take 3 classes once, then 2 per quarter to complete my degree in 3 years. If I want to become a CPA, I would add on another year, and plan on doing that, altho I should be able to start looking for a new job while I am working on the CPA portion.
Working full-time and being a full-time student will be tough, but I believe I can do this. The 2 online classes are relatively easy, and one of my 2 night classes is tax accounting. I have already taken a local course on preparing income taxes, and believe this class will be very similar.
I still have to take the entrance exam after I meet with financial aide, and will do that tomorrow most likely.
Orientation is Monday, Aug. 22nd, and classes will be Wed. and Thurs. nights starting that week.....Here I go!!!!!
