Here we are, folks. I have a blog. It's primary purpose will be to attempt to live-blog my upcoming trip. Now that I have a smartphone, it's actually possible. For the most recent updates, follow my Twitter - http://twitter.com/zzjitterzz. Also, it may be as close as I get to writing a trip report, as this will be my fourth trip to Vegas, all under the auspices of an AVP meet-up, but have yet to submit a trip report. I may do quick summaries of each of the last three years before I leave next week.
Some basic biographical info: Name: Andy. Born: June 1974 in Des Moines, IA. Lives: still in DSM. Status: single, no kids. Full time job: pizza boy. Poker experience: sparse play 2003-2006, much more focused since. Mainly NLHE tournaments and $1/2NLHE cash games, dabbles in mixed limit games, rarely in $2/5NLHE or limit hold 'em. Probably a slight losing player overall live, but constantly trying to learn and improve. I was an exactly break-even player online.
After the trip, all my live session results will be posted here too. I can't promise a barn-burner of a blog unless a miracle happens and I go on the heater of a lifetime and win a couple of WSOP bracelets. One can dream.

Welcome with the blog.
!. Are you ready to explain the significance of all the zz's? Or should I say zzSignificancezz"?
2. I was a pizza boy in my youth. Love pizza. It's one of the 4 major food groups, along with taco bell, burgers and buffets.
We have a revolving door of bloggers here, gain some/lose some. You seem to have staying power, so keep us informed!
Thanks! I'll try...
1. I know I once posted the origin of my username here. Let me explain it... no, no, is too long, let me sum up. Slipknot was once a local band, and we had a group of fans called the Sleepyclan. We all put "zz" at the beginning and end of our aliases to make it look like they do in the comics when someone is asleep. It's so silly now, but we were young and probably drunk.
2. I've delivered pizzas for longer than I care to admit. Far too long, really. It was always a fallback if no other job was available, and, well, I kinda stuck with it. And now I'm stuck in it. Interestingly, the local card room is advertising for part-time dealers and I'm thinking about going for it. I would no longer be able to play in it, which is a huge negative, but at least I would still be around the game I love and would probably still be learning, albeit passively.

Z, weren't you driving cab for a while? Or did I get that confused?
Nope, never a cabbie. I also at one point had an opportunity to drive a taxi but turned it down. That time it was probably the correct decision.
MUST SLEEP IMMEDIATELY. Today I have to do laundry and clean my gutters. Man I live an exciting life

very cool Andy. I delivered pizzas and played poker to get thru college.
so where did the nickname "jitter" come from?
GL on the trip!
"Jitter" is short for "Jitterbug", my original CB handle from more than 20 years ago. It was supposed to be an insult from some of my friends but I turned it around and it's now a term of endearment. I believe they got it from the Wham song Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go.

Quick summary- Virgin trip to Vegas, June 2008 for AVP VI
Prelude: Ever want to know what really drew people to AVP or Vegas? I'll tell you mine- the Monte Carlo fire. That sparked (pun intended) a desire to do more research on Vegas. I signed up for AVP two months later, having looked all around for info on Vegas poker games. I couldn't stop thinking about poker or Vegas or poker in Vegas, so what better way to feed the need than show up at an AVP meet-up. I enthusiastically RSVP'd.
Wednesday, June 11th, 2008: It got off to an auspicious start- my flight out of Des Moines was delayed, meaning my connection in Denver was in jeopardy. And, of course, the gates were on opposite sides of Concourse B, which happens to be a half-mile long. I huffed and puffed as I ran from one end to the other, but I caught my plane. I do think I scratched my throat by coughing a lot after that, which would plague me the rest of my trip.
Got to Vegas- gotta love McCarran with all its slot machines, you're not in Kansas anymore Toto!- got on the shuttle to the rental car facility, and picked up my car, a powder blue Hyundai Sonata with an alignment problem. I drove on to the Strip- my God, what a sight. I was here! Drove to the IP and valeted. At the registration desk, I tried the $20 trick, and it worked! Sorta- got a Luv Tub room on the third floor overlooking the pool. But hey, I was in Vegas. First thing I did was go to TI and play the 7pm tournament, which at the time was $65. I can't decipher my notes, but it appears that I played 3 hands- A3<A8 on a Ac8c3c flop, KT>J3, and A8<AJ. Took all of 35 minutes, not a great start. So I go back to the IP and jumped into their 8pm $80 (bounty?) tourney. I didn't even take any notes for this one, but I remember getting very lucky at the final table after a waitress hugged me for good luck, and ended up chopping for first place! Then I went to Bill's and immediately lose $50 on the second hand, JTo<KK on a J-8-8 flop. It doesn't get any better- QJo<KQ, flop Q-Q-5. Bluffed into Aces, lost to Kings, and to JTo on a 7-J-7-2-7, and then ran into a blind raiser who just happened to have AA. Turned $400 into $153. Drove to South Point, got into a $1/2NL game with Paul Wasicka. Luckily, there was a uber-LAG who was raising full stacks and a Crasian who couldn't fold, so I doubled my $300 buy-in to $600 in 1.5 hours. At this point, I was very tired, so I drove to the IP and went to sleep. Day 1: TI, 35min, -$65(t). IP, 2hrs, +$180(t). Bill's, 2hrs 30min, -$247(c). South Point, 1hr 38min, +$300(c). Tourneys: 2hrs 35min, +$115. Cash: 4hrs 8min, +$53. Total: 6hrs 43min, +$168.
Day 2, Thursday, June 12th, 2008: Woke up before noon, got in to a cash game at IP by 1:30pm. I wrote "good players" in my notes, which is hard to believe. The only hand I noted was where I had AQ, raised, and got 3 callers. The flop comes 9-7-A, I bet and get called. Turn is another Ace, I bet 50 and V calls. River is a 7, I shove and get called by A6o. So, I get unlucky to only collect half. Cash out at 3:15 down $35. Went to eat before I saw Phantom Las Vegas at the Venetian- front row seat baby! It was a great show- 4 out of 5 stars. After, I go to Caesars Palace and play some $1/3. Bought in for $400 and an hour later cash out +$156. Big hand was getting paid holding AQ when the board ran J-T-6, K, x. I then played the 11pm $120 tourney. I was card dead all night, and after the break I shoved 55 into KK to get crippled, and AT into AQ to bust at 12:45am. I called it a night after that. Day 2: IP, 1hr 45min, -$35(c). Caesars, 1hr, +$156(c). Caesars, 1hr 45min, -$120(t). Tourneys: 1hr 45min, -$120. Cash: 2hrs 45min, +$121. Total: 4hrs 30min, +$1 (lol).
Day 3, Friday, June 13th, 2008: Woke up early to play the 12pm $340 Caesars Mega Stack. I bought in directly for much more of my roll than normal bankroll rules should permit, which I know now, but was less aware back then. It was t12,500 to start and the structure was decent, but I was clearly outclassed- there was a WSOP circuit ring wearer and a couple of other good players. Had AA in the BB and raised pre but got no callers. I went completely card dead after the first break and had to fold my best hand- Ah7h- to a 3-bet shove. Made the second break but it was bleak. Dwindling down, V opened for t1600, I found Ah9d and shoved for t3000. Easy call for him as he has AT. Board runs out T-J-5, 4, A. Out in about 425th of 622. Went to [CENSORED]'s Last Resort in the Excalibur at 6:30pm for what I thought was an AVP dinner, but no one was there. I think I was mistaken on the time. Left about 7:45 to find a game. Went to the Monte Carlo, where I thought some AVPers were going to be, but again, found no one. Signed up for the 9pm tourney- $60 and a $40 add-on. No notes, but I evidently played well enough to chop into 3rd place for $190. Decided to go to MGM and test its soft reputation. Buy in for the $200 max, lose a bunch of small pots, add on $100. KK wins a ~$60 pot. Next hand the nut flush draw misses against a V shove on the turn. Later, JJ flops near nuts- J-5-5, and I double with a river push against a player with A5. Change tables 2 hours later, add another $100, but nothing going. AJ=AJ was the only noted hand. Cash out -$200. It's bedtime. Day 3: Caesars, 4hrs, -$340(t). Monte Carlo, 2hrs 45min, +$90(t). MGM, 2hrs 20min, -$200(c). Tourney: 6hrs 45min, -$250. Cash: 2hrs 20 min, -$200. Total: 9hrs 5min, -$450
Day 4, Saturday, June 14th, 2008: Being this is the day for the AVP tournament, and it's at the IP, there are plenty of AVPers around. Naturally, a mixed game breaks out. I buy in for $200 at 1:15pm. I experienced no real swings- in fact, I scooped two O8 hands, coined the phrase "Learn to scoop you donkeys!" and won 5 of 8 razz hands. My notes say I cashed out 5 hours later +$100. And now.... what you've all been waiting for... the AllVegasPoker.com VI meet-up and tournament. It was in a conference room upstairs- there were 10 tables, and by random draw, I got Yappy Dave on my right, and from the pictures, the eventual winner two to my left. It was a tough draw. They allowed re-entrys through the first break, and I did so twice, as did a few others- Yappy rebought more than twice . My notes are somewhat undecipherable, but it looks like I played bad. Ran KdQd into ATo, 88 into AA, and KTo into JJ. I went back downstairs to restart the mixed game. Bought in for $300, ran good enough in O8 and razz and decent enough in 2-7TD and Stud8 to be up ~+$150. But I gave it all back in 4-card Ocean Crazy Pineapple, 3-2-1 Omaha and Double Board Omaha, and got even during baduci. Cashed out -$10 at 2:30am. I had already checked out of the IP and my bags were in the trunk of the car. Drove to the Parking facility- it sure is empty at 4am- dropped off my car, caught the shuttle, and flew home. Didn't make money, but I was in love. I would definitely return to Vegas. Day 4 (all at IP): 5hrs, +$100(m). 1hr 25min, -$210(t). 4hrs, -$10(m). Mixed games: 9hrs, +$90. Tourney: 1hr 25min, -$210. Total: 10hr 25min, -$120
