Woohooo! 30 days to Vegas, cant wait of course! So last year, wife and i stayed with the Binions Poker Classic. Had a blast!! This year i see some really good events at Gold Nugget going at the same time. Which do you guys prefer?? They seem really close in structure. I'm wondering where they would even hold a big even at the Nugget, the poker room is small, is there a bigger area up stairs? Anyways, thanks for any responses from you Vegas guys, hope to see you all down there!
Danny

I love the Nugget and their Grand Ballroom is big enough to hold a nice sized
event. It is a very nice room. They don't try to hold large tournaments in their regular
poker room. Very conveient to nice eating places there and the restrooms. John puts
on nice tournaments.

The GN area is a bit nicer, but the Binions area is somewhat more accessible. The food options are a little better at Binions IMHO, as the GN coffee shop is overpriced and the buffet has limited choices (though very good).

The GN charges more juice for its tourneys, which is a huge factor as far as I'm concerned.

Lastly, Binion's gives every entrant into its tournaments a voucher that can be used afer one hour of live play for $25 in chips. This pretty much negates the vig for the tourneys and kills any inclination I might have to play at the GN instead of Binions.

I also have a subjective dislike for the GN poker room, in that whenever I play NL there, I seem to be surrounded by nothing but local nits and corpses, and there's about as much action as a quilting bee. Everybody there seems to be having no fun whatsoever. Of course, that wouldn't have much to do with the tournament environment.

I have played there the last 3 years of BPC and you don't get a $25 ticket after one hour of live play.....that is a bit silly. They used to give out dinner vouchers if you made it to the dinner break in a tourney.

Unless things have changed recently I don't think they offer much anymore but I will still be playing a few of those and a few GN Classics.

I just played a cash game their this morning. I saw a big sign promoting something about $25 in chips and tournaments, but I did not read it. I think it had to do with a current promotion. Hopefully someone that knows will post the details.

It may be "a bit silly", but that's what they're doing. You have to have entered a tournament and use the voucher within 24 hours. It certainly is a good way to draw players away from the GN tourneys.

Clarification: tournament entries in the Binion's Poker Classic, not their regular daily tourneys.

Thanks for all the replies! I think we are going to bounce between events and play both. We will be there in time to play event #1 at the Grand Poker Series at the Nugget, so if i bust early i'll cruise over and play binions at 2:00. Anyone know if any pro's might show up at the first event at the Nugget? I only recognized 1 at binions last year, but we went to the Rio and had a great time meeting the pro's over there.

Didnt mean to come off like a prick but it didnt sound right even though it was true! Sorry about that brah! My bad! I am glad to hear Binion's is running such a spot. I will be playing a few there for sure.

EDIT: According to Mauihaole you have to play in a cash game for at least one hour before earning your $25. I didnt think you could just enter any tourney, last an hour at the very least and collect your voucher. That didnt seem right and actually wasn't.......just clearing it up.
