Palms is now letting players use their comps to buy chips.

There is a promotion I suggested 3 years ago in a place I work. The answer was a resounding no.

I could not figure out why not either. Give them chips, what do they do, put them in play and pay rake. It's a win win situation for the house! The players essentially "cash out" their comps, but any of them that have anything of substantial value will be playing anyways. So it's a full 360 degrees on that point.

First not everyone is going to put them in play. And at a locals joint like the palms there will be people with thousand dollar comp balances (I have seen it). They barely use their comps, but if they get a chance to pull all that cash they certainlly will.

Also remember comps don't cost the casino there face value. If I go somewhere and get $15 in food comps, go to the coffee shop and order a burger . . . . what is the casino's real cost?

Palms is advertising their 2/5NL game (specifically THAT game) will now have "an optional button straddle every Friday and Saturday, other nights upon request."

The wording is just stupid. How about just saying that 2/5NL will now offer an optional button straddle? The "other nights upon request" part just seems dumb.

I'm thinking the reasoning might be that they make it automatic on those nights, but would probably require either unanimous consent or majority vote to switch to it on other nights. Not defending the way they chose to do and say it, just puzzling it out myself and that's what I come up with for how they might be thinking.

When I saw the ad I got the impression that they were specifically trying to run a game on Friday and Saturday nights, but they would be willing to spread it other nights if the demand was there. If they game got off the ground on any night, button straddling would be allowed. That's my impression anyway.

I see that there is not a lot of recent posts about this room. I posted about it in my trip report, and just wanted to say something here.

I played a long overnight session Nov 4th and it was awesome. The graveyard manager Sean was very nice to us drinkers, and "My Cousin" Vinny the dealers for much of the shenanigans was very patient.

The drink service was quick, and I even did some shots of drinks I had never heard of.

Before Sean left, he gave 4 of us, who played 4 handed for a long time to keep the game going, comped buffets. Very cool.

I suggest checking them out.

Be aware, when the morning bluehaired regs show up ordering coffee, the game and dynamic will change. They were less patient with our drunk stratelling, and very very loose play...call us "aggressive players" and asked it we would start a 4/8 game so they could play their reg game.

I've found both parts of that consistent with my own experiences there, so +1 to your report. It can be loosey goosey fun & rewarding with the right crowd at night, and then their daytime regs are a musty wet blanket in need of fumigating.

I don't go there much anymore, but if you're card dead or maybe just there in a 'party at the table' frame of mind, there's really something to be said for the some of the human scenery walking around (with & without cocktail trays in their hands) in that place, too.

Actually didn't someone post that this was actually one of the current promos at the Palms? Play for a long time and get a free buffet.
