This is a ridiculous move by Wynn resorts. Old price was $143 and that is expensive enough but now they are up to $253 each. Wynn cites supply and demand as the reasoning behind this and that it.has nothing to do with making more money lol. Oh yeah, and to further help deter scalpers.

That Steve - he's always looking out for the little guy.
I tried to get tickets for Garth the weekend before Turkey Day. They told my they only had tickets available for people staying at the Wynn or Encore. So we are seeing Matt Goss at Ceasars instead (and Barry Manilow the other night )

The initial reports said Garth wanted $25 tickets, Wynn wanted $500 tickets, so I think they compromised on $143 tickets the first go round, and now they're going uo...and I don't really see how raising the price deters scalping, or matches supply and demand (and there aren't many other $250 tickets in town)...but hey what ever it takes to nickle and dime joe public.

I think Steve has always made it very clear he couldn't give a stuff about the little guy, he doesn't want to market to the average Joe Blow at all and couldn't care less about value for money for Mr and Mrs Average. While this economy has made him have to compromise somewhat.....in boom times you definitely had to pay to play. Personally I think it's GREAT he thinks like this......or we wouldn't have The Mirage, The Bellagio, Wynn and Encore to enjoy. While the average person probably thinks those ticket prices are high.....die hard Garth fans will EASILY fork over that money.....just as die hard Barbra Streisand fans forked out over $500 to see her. It IS supply and demand....if you KNEW you could get 100 dollars for something and sellout.....would you really sell it for $10 just to please the little guy? cheers aces
I've actually got no problem with Steve charging whatever he wants for the tickets. If there's a market for them then God bless, as you've stated it would be odd to sell something with a market price of $100 for $10.
My sarcasm was more directed at the partial justification for the increase "to deter scalpers". Deterring scalping theoretically puts everyone who wants tickets on a level playing field as opposed to a scalping heavy situation where the scalpers are going to buy up a disproportionate number of tickets to resell at above face value. Such a system is arguably detrimental to the "little guy" as it increases the likelihood that to see the event he wants to see he will have to pay above face value for tickets. Ergo, scalping is "bad for the little guy" and deterring scalping is conversely "good for the little guy". But I don't buy that is the reason for the increase - hence, my (apparently failed) attempt at a sardonic response.
Cliffs: I try to make a funny, it doesn't land and then to reinforce the lameness of the remark, I explain it.
Actually raising the price does deter scalping. If you push the ticket prices up so high that nobody will pay more for them the scalpers can't make a profit. But when Wynn talks about deterring scalpers he does not mean he is trying to protect consumers .... he just figures that he should be the one making the money from the ticket sales and if scalpers are seelling them for more than face value it means he has underpriced them.
I had heard that the ticket prices were an issue in his negotiations with Garth. But apparently if that is true Garth failed to make it an actual term of the contract or he has changed his mind and agreed to the change.
