Going to be in Vegas for the first time ever this upcoming weekend. I plan on playing in Binions at least once and was just wondering if they still had the $10000 guarntee(can't spell) on the 2pm tourneys on sat and sun.

Yes, they are still running it.

was 168 players when I played 2 weeks ago...

Sadly, I made one mistake and finished prettly close to the bubble :(

I just played 3 tourneys there over the past weekend (see my trip report). They are still running the $10,000 guarantees on Sat and Sun and will run it one other time during the week, probably Friday night - as they put, they will let the players decide - I guess they will have a vote? ;-) With reference to the 1-2 NL game, we sat down Friday at 6am or so - the other stacks at the table were $10K, $8K, $4K, $4K, $1K, $1K, $800, $100. ;-)
The tourneys are very beatable, as they are full of local/tourist rocks and youngsters who fancy themselves "playahs".

curious how often the 10 game goes here. and also curious why the rooms are like free compared to the rest of the city are they without running water or beds or something?

also curious as to the rake/time taken here and perhaps a more general question is where are best places to play rake wise? what's the comp rate here? I think i've read it's very good. what rooms have the best comp rates?

Sorry it took so long for me to respond....yes the $10K guaranteed prize pools are still happening every sat and sun at 2pm. There may be another day/time added, but not until after the Binion's Poker Classic. This will continue through the Binion's Poker Classic May 31-July 4. The rake is $4 max - 10% on 2/4, 5% on NL and 4/8 or higher. The comps are $2/hour with no max per day. The poker room rates are $29/weekday - $45 fri/sat. The standard rooms have a bed and running water - and a tv. They are so cheap because they are very old rooms. If you need a cheap place to sleep and shower - this is the place. Good luck at the tables!

Jennifer - Im just curious as to why the weekday poker rate cant beat any of the online discounters prices. It doesn't make any sense at all.

25 bucks a night? for all intents and purposes thats free lodging if the poker room offers most any level of comp at all.

Poker rates at Vegas hotels are often beatable with a little research. Keep in mind how little revenue that poker brings to the casinos overall. Poker comps are a modern invention and were truly unheardof back in the day.

Complimentaries given to poker players are honestly true giveaways, and done as a "favor". Nowadays, things are a little different due to the competition out there, but when it comes to poker rates, little has changed.

A poker rate at most places that offer it is simple the "casino rate" which is basically just the standard hotel room rate less 10%. It is the same rate that anyone could get that has put a few dollars into a slot machine with their players card plugged in.

Travel websites can occasionally beat basic rack rates. It is no surprise.

However, most of what I have written above applies moreso to Strip properties then downtown ones. Binions has, I believe, the lowest poker rate in town, which is pretty good. If it can occasionally be beaten by an online room, then so be it. Book with the online company then. However, unlike the online company that may be able to beat the rate now, they may not be able to tomorrow, whereas Binions poker rate stays constant, for the most part.

How much play is needed prior to getting the rate? The rate is cheaper to book online during the week but it's 10 bucks cheaper on the weekends. Can one just ask the poker room to adjust it upon arrival?

If you book through a third party, your rate is set. If you book through Binion's website, they can adjust/comp or whatever.

If you have a known lower rate on a third party website, just call Binion's and ask them to match it.
