I cannot believe the stupidity of the management of the MGM Hotel and Spa. They have a new policy at the spa that does not allow non-guests to book spa packages. Non-guests are restricted to walk-up business only. I am a previous spa customer wanting to rebook a multiple-hundred dollar package I got when I was there in July. I come to Vegas 5 weeks a year. They no longer want my business. In this economy I would think they would treat repeat customers better than this. I'll take my business elsewhere, including my restaurant and gaming business as well. No more eating in their restaurants, no more money in their slots. I'm sure some other casino will appreciate all my business.
In my recent visits, I have noticed increased advertising of 'deals' at the spas as I am sure their business is off. Perhaps you should try to speak with somebody else at MGM because that policy doesn't make a whole lot of sense in good times or bad. Why would they care where there customers are staying?

This policy makes sense only if the spa is so carazy busy that it is booked solid for weeks in advance, and guests staying at MGM aren't able to get reservations. They lose less money from turning away non-hotel patrons than to lose the business of a guest that stays at the hotel, uses the spa, gambles in the casino, eats at the restaraunts, etc.

Good point and this is the current status of LV right now - you go to a restaurant, spa or whatever and have to wait in line. You think to yourself, oh wow maybe things are picking up. You finally get seated a realize that 2/3 of the restaurant is closed down and they have one waiter working. The annoying reality of the system right now.

This is my theory as well. I have been to other hotel spas and they have talked about how their business is way off. It's just a shame because the MGM was my favorite by far.
I received a very nice e-mail from Jill, the Director of Hotel Operations at MGM. Turns out the policy change only applies on the weekends (I was booking on a Tuesday) and she made it right.
I'm looking forward to my spa visit!!! (and I guess I can play in the poker room there again too....)
