Yes, the 2/3 is very beatable and the rake shouldn't be a factor if you don't suck. And during normal hours there are usually 3-6 games to choose from, so plenty in terms of game selection.
Well, I gave it a try last night. Several things stand out: 1. The rake is $6/pot, snarfed out of the first $20 in the pot, and $3 out of the first $10. They take $1 preflop even with no callers. They allocate it at $4 in the regular box and $2 in the jackpot box, but it's really a $6 rake as they are returning no more than about 20% of the money dropped into the jackpot box calculated this). Most of the promos, such as aces cracked and a royal flush bonus (pitiful, with an average value of $82 on a wheel you spin) only apply at odd hours; usually, the only promo operative is the bad beat. So they are siphoning roughly $100 every two minutes into the jackpot boxes, and you would think the bad beat jackpot would be astronomical--but it isn't. It never is. 2. The ridiculous 2-3 blind structure in the 3-300 game is obviously there so the house can scarf that initial dollar quickly and easily, but the effect is to have two big blinds as almost any hand would be worth playing in the small blind in an unraised pot. This, together with the huge rake, means a massive overhead for the player to fade. 3. The good news: every game I was in had at least one spewtard. Curiously, the wrinkled prune sitting over there fantasizing about when he used to be able to get it up just might be that spewtard. The Depends folks sit there like zombies and then decide, well, it's time to go, and they stack off with something like Q10. 4. Room comps are virtually nonexistent (6 hrs play gets you a $5 food comp), and the food, while pretty good, is overpriced (no player menu or specials or anything like that).
I cleared about $120 profit and got the hell out of there. I couldn't help but reflect, after I pulled in a $40 pot that had been reduced to $34 by the house rape, er, rake, that that same pot would have been raked $2 at the MGM or the Venetian. Who needs to get bent over and cornholed a la California snatch games? I'm not paying ANY card toilet $6 out of every one of my pots--not when there's a better alternative six hours away. Vegas, here I come!

Anyone played golf at Talking Stick? I am going to AZ next month and booked a tee time. It is half the price of TPC and Troon North which makes me wonder if you get what you pay for.
AlaskaGal: I was making the comparison with 2/5, not 1/2; 2/3 seems closer to me to the former than the latter. The V, to the best of my recollection, drops on 10/30/50/80 in that game. Not certain about the MGM but I doubt they would rake more than $3 in a $40 pot at 2/5. The two rooms do rake more from their 1/2 games. rdm411: Calling someone you've never met a "dickhead" is the act of...well...a dickhead. In any event, you're extremely unlikely to take any money off of me, your testosterone-fueled chest-thumping notwithstanding.

I'm a terrible golfer, but I did enjoy the Talking Stick course last February. The course is quite nice---even the various obstacles that devoured my bad shots were attractive. Whether the course---or Phoenix for that matter--would be as pleasant in June is another story. Hope you get an EARLY tee time so you can get back to the clubhouse before the furnace is going full blast.
Go back and read your post from Friday and then criticize me for calling you a Dickhead? Whether I ever actually take money from you personally is irrelevant. The poker tables have similar like minded people such as yourself - Dickheads. So getting money from one Dickhead is all the same. I am guessing that I am not providing you with anything you weren't already aware of - being Dickhead

I disagree that the 2/3 game is comparable to a 2/5 game. I used to live over there and play that game several times a week. It is the smallest spread limit game they have and the stack sizes are equivilant to a 1/2 NL game. I know they also have a game at Talking Stick that would be more in line with a 2/5 game. If memory serves, it was 3/5. I didn't play that game so I can't speak on if the rake is less or the same than the smaller level game.
I will say that Talking Stick was the best room in the area. I thought the table side food service was cheap compared to Vegas.

Enough with the name calling. If it continues, you will be getting a 'vacation' from AVP.
