This promotion has really been the talk of the town. At first I figured all 10 tables would be full at peak hours, but with all the commotion over this promotion and phone calls that have come in the Luxor is planning for all 10 tables to be running for most of the promotion.
Muckleshoot Casino Auburn WA does something similar in Washington State. $500 dollar high hands every half hour from 12pm to 12:00am. 1,000 for the first and last half hours of the event. They call it Super Sunday. First Sunday of the month always packed, 25+ tables. I have never seen anything but quads or better take a high hand in about 8 visits. Used to even include Monte Carlos two levels for Quads, str. flushes and royals. A lot of fun even if only because I finally have a chance to play against players as bad as me.
I would like to clear something up that seems to be confusing a lot of people. This promotion goes to the top 24 hands in the 24 hour period. This is NOT high hand of the hour. All money will be paid at the end of the promotion on May 6th. Just wanted to make sure everyone understands that.
This is the worst promotion for loyal player, the room will be crowded with people and you wont see them again after the promotion.
This is an example how to waste JP drop money from loyal players that play at the Luxor all the time on "Bonuswhores".
A smart promotion would have been giving out tickets for hours played during April and have a drawing or a 24k freeroll, so the room would have more players during April and reward loyal custumers.

I asked earlier how the promo is being funded. When theflea announced the promo he said "The Luxor Poker room will be giving away...." Doesn't that sound generous? If this is funded by the promo drop taken daily from the loyal players, then yes, the regulars at the Luxor are getting screwed. Poor Robbydog. Please respond Luxor!

The Luxor takes a whopping $2 JP drop; therefore, according to dealers they have too much JP money on hand and they wanna reduce it by giving away 24k. In my opinion the way they do it has not any promotional purpose. From a buisness perspective they should force players to qualify by playing a certain amount of hours to be elegible for the promotion, like giving out ruffle tickets for every ten hours played and having a drawing for 40 X $599 (=$23 960 and avoid all the W-2G paperwork).
In my eleven years living in Vegas I haven't seen a more silly "promotion", by throwing players funded JP money away without any promotional requirement. This "promotions screws all the loyal Luxor players. I wish they would reconsider and cancel their "throw away"
I need to finally chime in, I have always loved this subject. I am also speaking as a former Poker Room mangaer in the Las Vegas area. 1) Loyal players in poker rooms donate much less than the average tourist donates into a rake or promo fund. Yes that ONE loyal player might donate more than that ONE tourist, but that ONE loyal player will probably hit more promos as well. 2) I would think that it is safe to say that 90% of strip business is tourist business. Loyal player comes out way ahead on taking tourist promo money. 3) I assume you are just as outraged when John Doe from Colorado hits a bad beat jackpot on the strip, where do you think that $50,00 bad beat money came from?
For the Luxor specifically, 1) I do believe I read that they are doing a $5,000 weekly freeroll starting the next Sunday. Using my very simple math skills I do believe that comes out to about $20,000 a month. I would also assume that is geared towards the local loyal player??????????? 2) If this $24k promo is that bad I will also assume that you will not be there to try and collect that $1,000 out of principle. 3) When I called to Luxor about this promotion it was my understanding that this is almost an unofficial "grand re-opening" of the room. They have gone through a lot of changes and this is a sort of invite to come and see that it is not the same room it was years ago. I see nothing wrong with that. 4) I have no idea if it is promo money or free money they are giving away, and I don't care. It's my chance to get $1,000 bucks or more in my pocket.
On a side note, I have learned over the years through playing and managing that you shouldn't trust what dealers tell you. It is usually their own crackpot theories and are hardly ever right. I'm sorry this was such a long winded reply but some things just bug me. I would also like to say that in no way am I a Luxor appologist or supporter, I am just a common guy with past experience in poker rooms. I am looking forward to talking to you all again.
