I would say against a random sample of v's its a pretty strong tell to me with the biggest factor being the speed of the bet, (he's already decided in his mind if you check he's betting.. aka taking this hand to the grave) along with announcing it out loud and betting cash.. But I have seen many older folks who pronounce like this and it simply means "come get some young fella, I have the goods" so like all tells, they vary p2p... but with what we know about this V I would definitely say sign of weakness..... Just a side note.. when u see a player come to the table with something to prove, it seems they give off far more information. Through all forms

it is usually a weak tell, for two reasons:

1) he acted super fast - "i'm going to bet if checked to, it's the only way i can win." more people tend to think with bigger hands "oh crap, i have an awesome hand, how do i get paid off here?"

2) he announced his bet.

both with a reliability of about 60-65% = ). i'd never make a play based SOLELy on these reads.

thx all.... When I read thru the description it seemed to jump out to me in the same manner that this quick bet and verbal description was often a case of somebody "acting strong" when they were really weak.

Interesting hand though because this situation comes up alot and is one of the tuffer decisions where alot of money is won or lost in NL cash games..
