Last night was probably a night that I should have stayed at home.

I only had a couple hour window between the time the I was supposed to leave work till the woman was supposed to leave work.

after letting the dogs out and relaxing for a few I decided that I did not want to do laundry, dishes or any other household chores that awaited me. I've got the bug in me and I NEED to play.
So, I call up Aliante Station to see if they have any games going.
They had a 2/4 Limit and what they described as a long 1/2 NL List and they were going to start a table here very shortly.

So, I put some clothes on and headed on over and just as I was walking to the Poker Room they announced the start of a brand new 1/2 No Limit Texas Hold'em Table. Sweet - timing is everything.

However, Timing is only part of the battle - picking the right (ie: Hot) seat is also part of the battle.

My first hand was in the Big Blind and I never made it back to even.

I will freely admit that I didn't play the best poker last night. I made some mistakes, I tried to fish once or twice when I should not have and I didn't fold when I should have.
I didn't have a feel on the game, i made some misreads and I played looser than I normally do (though I did tighten back up once I realized it).
It wasn't pretty.
At my lowest I was only down $160 or so when I began my climb back towards even - however the cards and the players were not to be tamed this evening.

Several times I got into situations where I had good hands but others always had better. 2 pair vs the turned straight. Getting a short stack all in with my AK vs his A8s and watching him flop top pair (8's) and then going runner runner flush.

Being first to act after a straddle and waking up with KK, QQ, JJ and TT and never getting any action.
Flopping middle set and not getting action. Being in a pot and going Runner Runner flush and not getting action because the other guy had just double barreled with nothing on the flop and turn.
It just wasn't my night.

However, I did manage to win one good hand that got me close to even before dropping 2 hands that left me leaving the casino $100 down.

I was under the gun and had not raised very much at all so I popped it to $12 with 7h 2h
Next guy to act called my $12 and the Big Blind called as well.
I made mention that my UTG Raises don't get a whole lot of respect.

Flop comes out 4s 5s Th
Checks to me and I bet $25. Next guy folds and the BB is about to muck then pulls his cards back, thinks about it for 30 seconds or so and then puts the $25 into the pot.

The BB - I had him covered by a little bit - we both started the hand with probably 200 give or take.
He is a local (as is every bloody person at the table if you didn't know when I said Aliante Station) and has been playing well but not running well. He has had several people get there on the river while he bet down and I had not seen him actually play a draw yet - I have only seen him continue after the flop with at least a pair.

Turn comes 8h
Great card for me to give me more outs and I probably should have bet out here again.
He checks, I check.

In my head I keep repeating any 6 any heart any 6 any heart any 6 any heart and the dealer....

River - 6s

Villian bets out $45
I think about it, play with my chips and count out the 45 and look at the stack for a 15 or so seconds and announce raise - Pushing out my remaining chips.

Villian looks at me confused and asks me what I'm doing.
Mutters "I guess you really were on the flush draw" (which is when I first noticed that the river completed the flush - Had I noticed that I would have probably just gave a crying call)
Thinks about it a little bit longer and finally releases his hand.

After the pot was pushed my way I flipped my hand over (I know some of you will think this is horrible, showing a hand when I never should have) and he asked me what the hell was I thinking.
Commented to the person beside him that he didn't understand how I could push in that situation when he played his hand 100% like a flush draw.
Finally he asked me again how I could push in that situation, if I was just willing to gamble or if I was convinced that he didn't have the flush.

That brought my stack to almost even and then on my last orbit the deck hammered who turned trips and just called me down (thankfully). Eventually leaving down only 100, I was happy overall about recovering some of my loses, wishing I would have left when I was almost even after the big hand and knowing that the only reason I was down was because I played bad at the beginning of the session and donated some money that I should not have.

Aliante - you got the best of me this time, but I will get even!

Need to collect my thoughts and put pen to paper - but Just had a great session at Bally's where I was trying to get money off of the fish but a Local got in the way!

Was going to meet Tony for another session for our challenge, but by the time he sent me a text saying he was heading out to play it was too late and the table was too good to leave.

Now I'm at home, just ate some Wings and broccoli salad bought from the local Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market, chilling in the AC with my puppies!

Hey man,

Not able to have a fun late night session because the wife is off this evening and she thinks that I should spend quality time with her - whatever that means.

I just hit up the Aliante for a quick session until she got out and probably should have stayed at home instead and played Video Games!

...lol its like reading words from my own mouth... :o

All right -

Typed up my Session at Bally's but I know that I left some stuff out.
I pretty much only talked about my hands and such. I did not talk too much about the fish who was in for $1500 or so by the time I got there - then BUILT his stack up to nearly $2,000 and pissed it all away.
THEN headed to the ATM machine to pull out some more which he gave to the table as well.

Fish's big hand was this.

There was a raise and a bunch of callers (which was the table MO. This table was basically a 2/5 game that happened to have 1/2 blinds).
Flop comes out 78X with the 89x with the 89 being diamonds.

On the flop there was a bet by the fish, a call by the big stack and an all in by a guy in late position. Fish called and the big stack called as well.
On the turn there was another random non diamond non board pairing card. Fish checked and big stack bet out $200 - Fish called leaving himself about 75 behind.
River the 5 of Diamonds - Fish all in and Big stack calls.

Big stack whips up his A3 diamonds and the fish excitedly threw down his 67 of diamonds for the rivered straight flush (original guy who pushed flopped 2 pair with 89 and another claims to have laid down the same hand thinking that he had hit a set).
All in all an over 1k pot and a $250 straight flush bonus for the fish.
He then continued to run hot for quite some time winning a ton of pots and getting to nearly 2k before pissing it all away instead of walking away.

Anyways - Enough about NOT ME!

Please check out my blog if'n ya'll wanna read about my session/big hands.

Cliff Notes.
Bought in $200 - Got stacked
Bought in $200 - VERY next hand doubled up with a set.
hovering over $300 doubled up when AQ > A8 on an AAxxx board
Won some lost some then doubled up when I made a marginal call with a gut shot knowing the fish would pay me off but ended up stacking the tightest player at the table instead - a local who slow played his flopped set trying to trap the fish.

1 stacking and 3 double ups in one session and by the end of things effectively tripling my limited bankroll.

Question for all.

This one got the best of me because I:

1) am not used to playing with a big stack
2) am not used to sitting at a table with multiple big stacks
3) the opponent was definitely a better player than I
4) The game played bigger than a 1/2 with the stack sizes on the table and I have not played bigger games with any consistency (so kind of uncomfortable)
4) Now that I think about things, all in retrospect, I think I should have called pre-flop

Anyways - Villian, Fish and I are all over 1k deep.
Villian button straddles and gets 2 callers.
I call with 44, fish calls (25 in pot)
Villian pumps his straddle to $40

Folds to me - Fish is making no moves to clue me off as to whether is he going to call or fold.

So, not knowing what that player will do - only knowing that you are effectively set mining with 5+ buy-ins in front of you and villian - Do you call? Do you Fold? Do you Raise?
I was lost in this spot when it came to me, I thought about it for 30 seconds or so and eventually threw my cards into the muck not knowing weather that was proper or not.
I debated a call and I debated a raise to $150 as well - but I couldn't bring myself to either.

fold. hard to justify calling $40 there with 4-4 at the 1-2 even taking the deep stacks into consideration. :/ ...now if 3 limpers call in front of you...ah i still probably fold lol. set minings not set mining for $40 bucks. ...imo

Glad that you agree with my gut at the time.

Part of my problem when playing poker is that at really juicy tables I try to talk myself into calls because of the "I'll get paid off so huge if I hit" mentality and that is one of the things that I am trying to work on while out and about playing.

to add a bit...lets say you call and best case scenario you hit the set...if you fail to get much more out of him it still makes it a horrible call, to be honest youve got to get like $350 more from him after hitting to justify the call pre and thats gonna be pretty tough unless he hits right too. also was there anyone else involved or would calling the 40 make you last to act? if somone was left to act thats also an issue as if they pop it up again your folding out $40.

...dont suppose the 4 came out? or probably didnt get to the flop eh?

FWIW I'm folding there with one other person to act. If I was only one to act then might call to set mine but u could get in alot of trouble. God forbid it's set over if u r that deep you could go broke. I'm sure others will chime in with better advice.

Just set mine. With the deep stacks, you have more than enough implied odds to set mine. Re-raising against a better opponent OOP with 44 is not a good idea. Don't worry about the fish, he is coming along.
