Caesar's/Harrah's has been sending out promo emails to all and sundry, touting bargain room rates in June. The rate on any given day varies all over the map, but using the promo codes they've sent, I've seen Sun-Thurs rates as low as $17 at the Imperial Palace and $32 at Bally's. Either is within easy walking distance of the Rio for the WSOP or the Venetian for the Deepstack. You can do even better than this if you are an LVA member and use their promo codes.
I wouldn't be caught dead gambling at either property, except the 1/2 NL at Bally's can be a drunken donkfest at times. Nor would I eat at either place, but it's not like there aren't other options nearby.
On the weekends, when the rates zoom skyward, you can still get into the Gold Coast--very convenient to the WSOP--for $40-60/night if you have a Coast card, or can get one of those promo codes. An e-mail signup with bconnectedonline.com will accomplish that.
I've been very surprised at just how low room rates have been during what is a very popular month in Vegas. Maybe they really are overbuilt and oversupplied. I normally don't even perceive room rates, since I'm always comped, but I was bringing in a couple of friends this trip, so I had to find a room for them, too--I got them the entire period from Jun 6-Jun 16 for $243, all on or near the Strip.
Harrah's/IP "easy" walking distance to the Rio??? I think not. Keep in mind that it will be over 100 degrees F during the daytime. That "easy walk" just turned into a workout.
I suggest catching the free shuttle from Harrah's to the Rio - runs every 1/2 hour or so.

The heat in Las Vegas feels like air conditioning compared to the humid heat here in South Texas. I will take 110 degrees without humidity over 110 with humidity any day. As for the walk no thank you. I 2nd the free shuttle from Harrahs to Rio and back.

ahahaha the only hotel/casino that is "easy walking distance" to the Rio is the Gold Coast, and maybe the Palms. everything else ranges from a decent hike to just "no f'in way am I walking over there in THIS heat!!!"

HLV to Rio is about two miles, on an average weekday would take about 10-12+ min or so getting through all the traffic across the Strip and over the freeway by car, and Beaverdance's walk would take about half an hour to forty minutes (assuming one safely makes it across the exit ramps on both sides of the overpass of the eight lane interstate highway). Bring water. It isn't my idea of a good time, but then I wouldn't really know since my religious sect ("Worship the Invention of the Wheel and Discovery of Fire and Air-Conditioning") is opposed to that kind of unnecessary physical activity, along with the other venal sins such as the uncivilized toting of heavy knapsacks & sleeping in tents or hostels/dormitories or other places lacking the sacred God-given gift of a room service menu. I don't know how long the ride is on either of the shuttles (Harrah's to the Rio, or Boyd's shuttle to the Gold Coast across the street from Rio).
If convenience to the Rio at a low price is first priority then Gold Coast would likely be about as cheap as IP for someone who doesn't get a Total Rewards discount (twenty-something to thirty bucks most nights midweek) and better room quality than IP though a little lesser room quality than HLV. If staying on-Strip cheaply is first priority, then IP probably is the closest budget priced option, with Bill's and HLV possible medium priced places if you want nicer rooms. Bill's would also be the closest Strip hotel you can possibly get without paying through the nose to stay at Caesars Palace or Bellagio. It might also be worth checking the rates for your dates at the Flamingo; sometimes they are higher than Harrah's LV and sometimes lower, depending on what's going on in the hotel on any given week. I also know of several people who have said they were pleased with the value for the money in the small hotel at Casino Royale (next door to HLV) but I've never seen the rooms there myself.
On many nights during the WSOP room rates right at Rio itself can be fairly affordable. It is held during a slack time for hotel occupancy, and WSOP is really not very large as Las Vegas conventions and events go. During the past few WSOPs I've seen many nights available there for around forty to fifty bucks midweek. So far this year it looks more like $60-$70+ midweek, and of course a lot more on weekends, if booking without a Total Rewards account. With a TR card it gets a lot cheaper as do the IP and HLV and Flamingo.

What the heck is a beaverdance anyway? It sounds like the perfect name of a completely nude strip club in the Florida Everglades. I googled it and I'm not even going to mention what the urban dictionary said.

I think you may have come on board just a little after the first banning, under the original "Beaverdance" screen name, about a year and a half or two years ago.

I'm familiar with the beaverdance of AVP fame. I'm just not sure what the screen name means? Local Rock, bowlingfool are logical names. Beaverdance?
Ah, I see. I think I vaguely remember he mentioned once that it had something to do with a Native American Indian origin. Though I may have been in that strip joint at some point in my wasted youth.
And I resent the implication that my choice of the nome de poste "Local Rock" is sane, sensible, or logical. Personally I rather like "CRM..." uh, er, whatever the rest is. It is the launch code or something from "Dr. Strangelove." But "OKheresthething" on Twitter is better.
