I thought this went pretty well 2 years ago, so decided to do it again.

First day in Vegas went pretty well. Howeer we did start off by collecting our baggage from carousel 13! I really don't care about that, but thought it was interesting.

First poker session went well. Played a couple of hours at Excal, 1/2. I was playing pretty tight, but lots of loose passive calling stations. The guy to my left I think had a pretty good read on me and was pushing me on my position type plays. Especially when he was the button. CO was not a stealing position for me.

Couple of hands of note. I raised MP with KQo to 6 (pfr were fairly small at this table), one of the blinds min raise me. A call and I call. Flop AJTr (easy game). PFR leads, I flat, heads up to turn. Turn is a bank, villian leads again, and I raise, but horribly sized it, ended up being 5 short of min raise, and then had hardly any behind (47). I should have shoved turn. V calls, river blank, and he leads for 50 to put me all-in. I call with the nuts, and he flopped a set of tens. I love live poker.

Later I have AT otb, early limper, I raise to 12, caller from the BB, heads up to flop. It was like QT7 two diamonds. Checked to me, I bet ~pot, call. Turn blank, this guy has been fairly weak and can find folds, so I fire 2nd barrel, 2/3 potish. Call. River brick, he checks again, and I check behind expecting to loose to a middle pair. V turns over A2d for busted flush draw, the 9 plays. Ended up being a decent sizd pot.

First session +206.

Later I'll add my experience at the Motley Crue concert. That was totally kick ass btw.

Thinking about trying the IP mixed game tonight, not sure.

Motley Crue concert.
After a little rest in the room, wife and I head over to the Hard Rock for the concert. I'm pretty stoked, my wife not so much. I'm pretty sure she isn't going to like how loud it is going to be, and this was pretty much confirmed throughout the concert. 80's Glam metal was never her think anyhow. I totally enjoyed myself. In retrospect, I should have gone to the concert solo, but my wife heard how excited I was when I found out Crue was going to be here in vegas during her conference, she came along with me. A crazy as she drives me most of the time, I still love that woman.

I have some photos on my phone, I'll try to get that posted if any are good enough.

This concert was kick ass. Everyone on their feet from the opening number. The acoustics were sometimes kind of harsh, but I loved that concert, and the energy in the room was fantastic! The pounding I felt in my body from the amps was just incredble. I loved that experience and would gladly go back to see them in that venue again! This is what a [CENSORED] rock band should be people.

After the concert, cab line is crazy LOL. Moved fairly quickly, and back to Excal. Wife crashes, I head out looking for some food, eat at that burger place in Excal, American Burger Works or something, not all that great IMO. I throw $40 away in slot machines becase I'm tired, decide to get on the 1/2 list anyhow. I'm falling asleep sitting at an empty table about to just say the heck with it when I get called. Uneventful session, but I do cashout +5. I'll take it.

Trip +211 poker, -60 slots (I really don't know why I do that, I know it is lol

Excal 9am tourney

Went down to breakfast with the wife before she headed to her conference. We just hit McDs in the food court. Didn't want anything big. This is also where I need to come for free wifi. Can't believe they don't have it in the rooms, just something I've come to expect. Had I realized there was only the wired connection, I would have packed a spare wireless router.

Anyhow, I was typing up the initial post of this blog and the Motley Crue concert post after she headed to the conf. As I'm about to head back to the room, I hear them call the 9am $35 tourney. What the heck, wasn't really planning on it.

Only hand of note for me was the very first. I have KcKs in EP, raise 3xBB to 300. Caller in the SB. Flop is 3 spades, including the As. Wow, what a horrible spot for me. Check, I cbet, and don't remember how much, but get called. Turn is no help, check check. River still no help, I fold to river bet by villian.

That kind of crippled me. However I made some comebacks, shoving when I was good, and sometimes not but sucking out. I make it to the final table and into the money. We get to 3 handed, chop is offered, 375 each even split. This was more than 2nd place, we all agree. 375-35 buy-in - 25 dealer tip (too much?) for +315 for morning loldonkaments.

Poker +526
Stupid -ev slots: -60

Still considering IP mixed tonight, anyone else playing? Hit me up on twitter @Thunder_Eagle

Just did McDonalds again for lunch, I know, I know, but I just want something cheap and quick. It fit the bill again.

Not sure what to do now, need to take the tablet back to the room, maybe check out MGM Grand's room, I don't think I want to head too far up strip right now, especially if I'm going up to IP tonight. Maybe head to Aria to avoid jackpot drops.

Krispy Kreme in the Excalibur has free wifi also.

Nice job so far with the poker wins.

Seems like a decent amount for a tip.

That's a brutal structure when you make one failed c-bet on the first hand and it cripples you :o

congrats on the chop and the great start to your trip. GL

The down swing hits!

After my donkament cash, headed over to MGM. Not a good session. Most notable hit, I get KK all-in against QQ on the flop, turn a Q. Session ends up -168.

Poker for trip: 358

After meeting the wife for dinner, I ended up not going to IP, wound up in The Mirage around 11ish. This may have been the most card dead session I have every logged. Very LAGy table, and not good lags, ATC lags. I'm just grinding, getting totally trash hands. I'm up and down a bit, I was tired and frustrated, had got back to about 150 (200 buy-in) when I have AJo in the BB. A limper and button raise to 12. I call, limper calls. This guy had been raising with a WIDE range of hands. Flop comes KJX two spades, I check, limper checks, button 15, I raise to 45, limper folds, button calls. Turn is 3rd spade, I shove for about 95. Button tanks, and tanks. Finally says "If you have it you, you have it" and calls. Turns over KQo I don't improve and head back to the hotel. -200 Session.

Poker for trip: 158

I probably should have left the Mirage or got a table change last night. I was tired and frustrated, and that probably led to some bad decisions. I headed up there because I saw that Kristi tweeted she was working, but didn't see her, I must have got there after her shift. I had my AllVegasPoker coin from a couple of years ago with me and I was going to use it as a card protector if she sat down to deal to see if she noticed. This was a mistake. I never put it on the table, but for whatever reason, I always run really bad whenever I use something other than chips to protect my hand (and usually don't use those). Just having it in my pocket was the problem IMO. :)

No idea what to do today. I'd like to play someplace new just to collect a new chip. Maybe I'll just walk the strip a bit, no idea.

Any locals want to just say hey, you can hit me on twitter, http://twitter.com/Thunder_Eagle

The hits keep coming. Sat in at Tropicana, another 200 buy-in gone. Now down for the trip and bad confidence.

try not to focus on results but how you are playing each individual hands. your results are going to vary. that said you know you got frustrated and played the AJ bad (basically turning your entire hand into a bluff). we all get tired or frustrated and make a bad play... it happens. remember poker is about making less mistakes than your opponent.

it also sux to start up and then go down. It's better for morale to go down then up. try not to think off anything but playing each hand the best... AND RUN BETTER!

And remember you are in Vegas!!!

looking forward to a more positive update. GL

Thanks for the encouragement. On the AJ hand I actually felt I had a better than average chance of being good. There is some bad play, no doubt. Most of my biggest losses I actually got my money in good. Sklansky bucks ftl. On a list at IP now.
