Let Judy have her chip rake stick for gods sake. We aren't playing the WSOP main event. Lets put in $ terms the more the dealer has to tell players to push in their chips the more time it takes away from dealing cards which means less hands and less rake. Has a player ever compalined about them? Has anyone ever said they wont be back because of the sticks? Is this the same genuis who took away the aces cracked promo. Promote this star.

Okay, I want to clear some things up here.
First of all, the Aces cracked was taken away from the promotions menu due to the inability of the machines to properly be set to identify Aces cracked situations.
Now, the machines are gone, but the room is having to deal with quite a few semantic issues with re-opening the room as a live room. Due to this, Ed has opted to keep all existing promotions FOR NOW. These existing promotions were the same ones that were being used when the room was electronic.
Ed has stated many times that he will re-evaluate the promotions and change them once the room gets back into the swing of things. He has said that Aces cracked will more than likely return. I have confidence that this will be the case.
This room is busier now than it has been in the past year, and they need time to adjust to having a busy poker room. Ed was hired after the room was converted to electronic, so he has a lot on his plate to deal with since he has never worked with the Excal dealers and such before.
Having said all that, I do want to mention some particular items:
The reason I am a reglular at Excal is not because I love Excalibur. The room is sub-par, no question. The dealers are old fashioned and are not schooled on modern dealing mechanics, also no question. So why do I like the room, and why do the regulars like the room? Two things: Action and character. The Excal dealers give the room a LOT of character. They are a unique and humorous bunch. You can really tell the employees that were hired post PTEK and those from pre-PTEK. Pre-Ptek are the comforting soles that made you realize why you play at excal. Post-Ptek are from the new school. They are very customer friendly, but they are the same type of people you see in most post-poker boom poker rooms. By the book, professional, and modern. These things are NOT why I love playing at the Excal.
If I want to be around the serious and professional, I will play at Venetian or Wynn. I play at Excal for the action, the atmosphere, and the character (and characters, for that matter).
Furthermore, "it is unprofessional to allow a dealer to have a stick" (quote of management). This coming from a room that pays some broad to dance on a platform half naked?
Mary and her stick goes along with the kitchen table rules and casual atmosphere that define the family-esque customer base that Excal appeals to.
Last night they had 6 games, and enough people to open a 7th. I will be back tonight for the 4th night in a row, with the wife. Got to spin the wheel due to hitting Aces full last night. Sometimes you can go home again.

LVM, has captured the spirit of the Excalibur room very well. This is also why I always loved this place. Some of the dealers having a stick to pull in the rake was part of what made it unique.
Will be there sunday through thurs to play (and for a conference). All this talk about the reopening is making me pine to be at the Ex. now. I am really surprised the stick is such a problem. I concur with the comments saying that it is part of the character of the room and has a place there. I know some people who sit only in certain seats at the roulette wheel for the exact reason of not being able to reach far. I would assume some poker players may do the same thing.
Lookin' forward to getting reaquainted with the room at the Ex. and even playing some pool!
I agree with Alaskagal. Let her use the stick. I remember the last time I played at Excal, Mary came in on a dealer change with her stick. I politely asked her what the stick was for, and was told it was for beating young punks like me when I get out of line. She said this with a laugh and a wink, clearly joking.
There was a fairly big discrepancy at our table when I had missed a flush draw on the river after betting every street (stupid, i know but i didnt think he had anything) and after he called my all-in on the river, I promptly said, I missed my flush, and tabled AK spades...he threw his cards in the muck, I couldnt believe it and I started to rake the pot...He flipped out saying he threw 2 queens..saying the pot was his, flipping cards in the muck to find his. He kept swearing and going off about it, and Mary politely said "Did you not hear earlier the reason i carry this stick young man?"
The whole table burst out in laughter and the guy went nuts, got escorted out, and i threw Mary $10 strictly for her comments in the situation.
I will definatly be back to the Excal now that its live again.
Played at Excal tonight from 6 PM till about midnight. When I left there were FOUR 1-2 NL's going and TWO 2-4 games. Not bad for a Monday night. Las Vegas Michael and Yappy Dave were there. I also had Mary for a couple of downs and more than one player asked her what happened to her stick. I predict management will eventually cave to public pressure and the stick will return.

We just got back from our 4th night in a row at Excal. Yappy accompanied.
Nice to bump into DayTripping. The room still had 5 games when we left around 2:30AM.
Here's the funny thing about Mary and her stick: She dealt at the Rio during the WSOP before coming back to Excal, and Rio had NO problem with the stick! The WSOP is less professional than the Excal, apparantly. LOL!
There are actually 3 Excal dealers (that I recall) that used sticks. Mary is the most notable, but the others are facing the same situation.
In all seriousness, I have been back every night (with the wife) for a reason, which I enumerated earlier. Entertaining staff and kitchen table style games. We will probably be back tomorrow night, depending on the wife's schedule.
